Ascent Trip ReportSolo hike up Grandfather Mountain Profile Trail - needed solitude on this particular day and elected to tackle the profile trail due to its high rating on AllTrails.com. Excellent, tough uphill slog with some rock scramble. Ladders/ropes in some places, other places certainly could have benefited from them. Encountered group of Scouts using ropes for one particularly treacherous decent. Also encountered group of App State students with small dog who was able to climb the ladders. Slippery in parts due to ongoing drizzle. Hot at base of mountain but chilly at top, fortunately had packed a fleece, unfortunately did not have long pants. Excellent if somewhat cloudy view from top. Two benchmarks located near top.
