Ascent Trip Report

mt biked the 5mi approach to otter falls. Required hopping on and off quite a bit, but there were plenty of good stretches to make biking well worth it (would have been very boring on foot)

Intention was to climb otter falls; however we found it completely wet when we reached it around 8am.
So instead we went straight up the forest east of the falls, typically staying within 100 yards of the falls. Very thick bushwacking through almost all of it.

At roughly 2300ft we reached a vertical rock face with possible ways forward to east and west. To the west we found where someone set up a rap station with a single red runner tied to a tree. We might have gone onto the falls here, but there was a hornets or wasp nest right next to the rap station. About 12 ft east of that we were able to scramble up the slab. Alex set up a hand line from a tree at the top.

Due to slow progress up the steep forested route, we decided to stop at 2900 ft. By traversing west to the falls we found a series of small side waterfalls, one of which we dubbed Gerry's Falls, then made it to the main falls. We decided to down scramble as far as we could on the slab, which had a few dry-ish segments. We went back into the forest around 2600 ft, descended and did a short rapp over the rock face (the one near the hornet rap station) that we had scrambled up before. At x000ft we did a double rope rap from a tree on a ledge, then descended the last bit in the forest.

We walked 10minutes further east on the main trail to see the bridge over a smaller falls.

mt biking on the way down to the TH required very little on/off, so it was much faster than the approach
