Ascent Trip ReportWe had wanted to do an alpine rock climb as part of my trip up to Washington, so we picked a shorter approach and went for The Tooth. Apparently it is quite popular on weekends, so we got a later start to let the alpine start crowd get out of our way and off the route. We missed the use trail above Source Lake and ended up too high on the slopes. A quick descent put us back on track. The use trail is pretty easy to follow for the most part and takes you to the scree field below the peak. We made our way up to the base of the rock climbing as a group was descending. As we started the first pitch another pair rapped past us. This left only 1 group ahead of us on the ascent, so we had a pretty clear route. Turns out that a later start was perfect to get all of these people out of our way! I led the first pitch for nearly a full rope length before finding a nice anchor around some big trees. I belayed Becca up to this perch and then set out on the next pitch. The next pitch was more class 3 than anything, so belaying it was a waste of time and created a lot of rope drag. Becca quickly caught up and we set out for the final short pitch as the only other group on the peak rapped off. After a quick lead, we were on top! The views were spectacular (as they are on most peaks). We spent a good 30ish minutes on top enjoying it all before deciding that we should rap down and hike out if we wanted a good meal back in Seattle or one of the 'burbs...
Overall a great peak and a great intro to alpine climbing for an aspiring alpine climber! Photos coming sometime in the distant future... #mywifisucks #firstworldproblems
