Ascent Trip Report

I took Exit 44 on I-15 S of Dillon, MT and drove CR 324 W 22 miles (all paved) to an intersection near a picnic area with outhouse and message
boards about history and geology. About 5 miles of roads going W and N from this intersection, the first of which is signed Lemhi Pass Road,
got me to FR 181 which I drove 11.5 miles to take FR 919 9 miles N and E to it's intersection with signed FR 70144. All roads from CR 324 to
FR 70144 were excellent, smooth and fast. I found the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest South map very helpful. I parked near the
FR 919 / FR 70144 intersection. In fact, I camped there and next day, Aug 26, 2015, I walked up FR 70144 about a mile (1st half easily driveable,
2nd half driveable less easily, but I didn't drive this because of tree limb problems for my camper)to a point where there were 2 orange diamond markers on 2 trees. At this point the road continues off to the right and a trail starts off to the left. I took the trail looking for ax blazes
and cut logs to help me follow it S and SE up into a basin, losing the trail at a marshy meadow, but finding it again on the other side.
Lost the trail again on the way up to a 9100 foot saddle between Bloody Dick Peak to the south and PT 9374 to the north. No need for trail here anyway as the forest is quite open and it is very obvious where you need to go. I found no trail on the hike up the north ridge of Bloody Dick Peak.
Again, no trail needed, route blatantly obvious. At top Bloody Dick BM with 2 reference markers. Plastic bottle contained a few scraps of paper
with a few names and dates. 5.1 hours for round trip of 6 miles and 2200 feet elevation gain.
