Ascent Trip ReportHiked up via the NW slopes, horrible bush whacking down low into beautiful muskeg meadows and then alpine. Gained the ridge just south of the WNW glacier and followed that to the summit of Montague Island! Great views. A low cloud layer in the Gulf of Alaska obscured our views to the south, but sunny skies to the north allowed great views of the high Chugach and Prince William Sound. We noticed the river coming out was shallow and had lots of gravel bars so we traveled out through the river missing the horrible bush whack. We had to wade the knee deep river several times, but was so much easier than the bush whack! |
