Ascent Trip Report

Drove up 18 passed the four mile campground and then the Leavitt for sale Mill buildings on the right. Not too far up the road past the mill I turned left onto FR 603. The road marker is not right at the intersection, more like 50 feet in on the right. This road starts out in good shape, but after a half mile gets rougher and narrower. I was able to drive 2 miles up 603 from 18 at a slow pace in a jeep patriot parking right below the mine. Probably could have drove all the way to the saddle, but elected to walk 30 minutes to the saddle where I first hiked up to Peerless and then on to Horseshoe.

Rather windy morning, but fortunately I was able to warm up a bit in an old cabin on the southern end of Horseshoe's summit before continuing on to Ptarmigan.
