Ascent of Klondike Peak on 2015-08-15
|Date:||Saturday, August 15, 2015|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||13114 ft / 3997 m|
Ascent Trip ReportOne of the most 'adventurous' climbs I've done, involving:
25 miles of paved road from Cora, the nearest town
18 miles of dirt road to the Green River lakes TH
11 miles in on the CDT to Three Forks Park
Leaving the trail, immediate unbridged stream crossing. Camped on the far side.
Next morning, immediate steep bushwack up ~1500 ft.
This was followed by ~4 miles of treacherous but highly scenic boulder hopping and scrambling.
Another steep headwall scramble to gain the Continental Divide.
Finally, the last ~500ft of elevation was gained via glacier travel. Repeat everything on the way down.
This was a seriously awesome adventure- gorgeous, grueling, varied, and remote. It's always a trip out in the Winds.
