Ascent Trip ReportAfter a late start for Granite Peak and a route finding mistake, my son, Marshall, and I tried to salvage the day by bagging Tempest Mountain and Froze To Death Mountain on the return to camp. Tempest is an easy rock scramble of just .4 miles from the cairn above the scree trail to the saddle below Granite Peak. Despite its short ascent from the cairn, the view of Granite Peak here is very rewarding. If the weather is good and you aren't "wiped out" after climbing Granite, you might consider adding this short side trip to your itinerary.
