Ascent Trip ReportWe parked the car at the Fork Ridge trailhead, half-way between the Newfound Gap and the Clingmans Dome parking lot, and hiked the four miles to the summit on the Appalachian Trail. Only a handful of people on the trail but crowded at the observation tower in what we read is the most visited highpoint in the most visited national park in the US(!). We passed over Mount Collins as well as Mount Love on the hike and later stopped at Newfound Gap (which hardly could be deemed to be a peak!) when we drove down the mountain and out of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
