Ascent Trip ReportThings remain unchanged from John Mitchler's excellent trip report posted in the National Monument section at cohp.org. Except for the price, which is now $15 per vehicle.
But I have a tip regarding that. I arrived by chance around 6:30pm to find a great little window of opportunity. Admission is free after 6pm. While the monument is open until 8pm in the summer, on my way out I found rangers closing the road to the hp at 7pm. So if you don't have an annual pass and can time it, this can be quickly done for free.
Nice views, including of nearby higher land on private property and of the new fire raging not far to the north, I assume started by the just-passed lightning storm. Narrow road and non-peakbagger drivers doing about 10mph. I was here as a child and will have to enjoy the historical aspects again on another drive-by.
