Ascent Trip Report

Ascended from the Eska Falls trail on the south side of the peak, on a warm, late July day. I followed scree covered couloirs to the ridge top then had to drop down over onto the north facing slope and continue to follow the scree up to the solid rock cliffs. A bit of free climbing was required, and loose rocks made for some very sketchy areas to traverse. Once I made the final rock climb back up to the ridge top I was only about 200 yards from the summit, which I jogged in a short burst due to the adrenaline pumping from the final free climb. Granite Peak is no small fete, and took about 4 1/2 hours to successfully summit. Once I made it to the summit, I decided to head back down the north facing slope to the valley in behind Granite and then continued on back around to Eska Creek and back by the falls and out. The day couldn't have been any better aside from a few scattered clouds over the neighboring mountains. Some rougher looking weather and wind started to move in as I descended on the north side of the Peak.
