Ascent Trip ReportAn October trip to the southern Sierra. With my friend, Louise Wholey. This peak is off limits unless you speak with the Indian reservation and pay a fee, or sweet talk the ranchers - we opted for the latter. We simply asked if we could hike along the river to gain the peak, and they said yes!
We chose the south slope, a big mistake. What was CL2 scrub quickly turned into CL3 with Yucca spikes poking you in the leg. We got through that section, and found a pine forest of Pinyon pine which was easier going. On the way down, we chose a sandy chute on the west side and got down in a breeze. All in all, a nice climb.
Note: this peak was on the SPS list, but later removed because of access issues.
