Ascent Trip Report

Did a short out-and-back to Stratton Mtn from the south. From my space at Stratton Arlington Rd, the Long Trail made an easy, almost level 1.4 mile climb to a forest service road, passing by a pond/swamp about 3/4 mi. in. Was extremely muddy in spots, but careful foot placement avoided any problems. After the road crossing, the LT/AT gained the ridge crest via switchbacks, all while still keeping a moderate grade. Once on the ridge, the trail made an easy climb to the summit, which was thickly wooded with no views (but excellent views were found from the enclosed cab of the summit fire tower). From the tower cab, Glastenbury Mtn, Snow Mtn, Equinox Mtn, Dorset Mtn, Mt. Ascutney, and Killington Peak were visible. Stuck around here in the company of some AT thru-hikers and then headed back down.

Saw my first thru-hikers of the year, and I'm also proud to say that with my 2 hr 16 minute pace, I broke 3 MPH for a pace! Don't worry, I still got to "smell the roses", so to speak.
