Ascent Trip ReportThe parking lot on Route 9 is easy to locate. And even on a Saturday in July there were only a few cars in the lot. This should have been a warning that this was going to be a challenging hike.
The trail is beautiful but very difficult. If you are not in good trail shape, don't even attempt it. I've hiked a lot, and some in the high peaks region and I found this to be the most difficult maintained trail in the high peaks so far. Basically, it kicked our butts. It is constantly going up, up, up, up and up with a couple cols after Bald peak and a couple other spots, so you get to go up some more.
There are absolutely great views to be had, wild blueberries to eat and plenty of great spots to rest, have a snack or drink. But be prepared for a long, challenging day. My one friend said, "this is like climbing up a building." |
