Ascent Trip ReportWe began at the small parking area where MST crosses NC 215 (there's a larger parking area just uphill). Note that these parking areas are wide graveled areas on the roadside, not signed, paved parking lots such as found nearby on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We followed the MST to the place where the unmaintained but fairly obvious trail turns towards the summit of Mount Hardy. As described in other reports, this is just east of the MST junction with the Green Mountain Trail, and just uphill from an obvious S-curve in the MST.
The trail to the summit area is easy to follow in most places, but there are some more open areas where we found a little patience was required due to heavy vegetation. This part of the trail would probably be more obvious in winter. The rock with a benchmark near the top was obvious and as others have noted is NOT the summit. After a bit of searching about, I agree with other posters that the high point seems to be a boulder within the small 6120' contour.
