Ascent Trip Report

Ben Still and I climbed this after Olympus and Baker.
Hiked in to 6700' camp at the popular tarns at the base of the White Chuck Glacier on July 15. 6.5 hours. Sunny weather turned to rain showers that evening. Woke July 16 at 4am to thick clouds and rain. Back to bed. Clouds started thinning at 11am. By noon we were off to see how high we could get, rather than sit in the tent. Weather continued to improve with occasional glimpses of the peak as we got higher. 1:15pm we were at Glacier Gap. Roped up on the Gerdine Glacier and onto the Cool Glacier. Only tricky section was the pressure ridge entering the Cool Glacier. Occasional easy snow bridge on the Cool Glacier. On the summit by 3:45pm. Left after 2 minutes. Windy and cold. Rime ice on all the exposed rocks. Back at camp by 6:15pm. Weather turned sunny for the hike out the next day. Off to Mt Stuart the day after.
