Ascent Trip ReportPart 1 (the hard part) of a two-part hike, starting from a parking area a bit over a mile from Islip Saddle: Mount Hawkins to Copter Ridge and back, followed by a detour to Middle Hawkins.
(Part 2 was Pinyon Ridge from Vincent Gap.)
The hike down to Copter Ridge is kind of like a mini-version of the hike to Ross Mountain, on the next ridge to the east. There is a lot of steep stuff that keeps you on your toes going down, and it can be something of a slog at points going back up. But this was a perfect day to tackle it: blue skies, not too hot, nice breezes (for the most part), really lovely views all around. I didn't find a register. I met a fellow HPS pursuer on my way up (his way down): hi, Dave!
