Ascent Trip ReportSwath eastbound .... 4km, 1:45 hours RT
This is the second and last day of "Highpointing the Boundary Peaks", tomorrow we'll head-back-west to Parc National du Mont Megantic. Today we visited 4 peaks and did a lot of back road driving.
See my Moose Hill TR for driving instructions inside the Territoire.
We arrived here yesterday. From the Junction of Chemins du Round-Top/#260L (KM Marker 17.9) we drove southeast on #260L (through the quarry) then northeast to our parking spot on the left at 1.5km ... this was our parking spot for last night and our TH for today's hike (45.61044,-70.64178).
30M before on the right is a hunters access trail that appears to go right-of-east, my route to the Boundary Line.
I walked the hunter's trail easterly .75km (very wet in places) as it climbs to a "Salt-Lick Trap with 2 Shooting towers", 100M beyond is the Boundary Line Swath.
I turned left, eastbound on the swath for .8km to Monument 396 "original cast iron, 1842". The swath through here is somewhat flat with no real obvious HP (topo shows 2-2040' contours). After checking it out I chose my HP "395.18" at the very east end of the 2040' contour, about 250 meters east of Monument 396 and right on the boundary line before a slight bend ... my GPS 45.61148,70.62478.
The swath is wet and overgrown in places, a few short steep sections, poor footing, slow going. I didn't see any intermediate benchmarks or Survey Markers on this trip.
This is my last Peak inside the length of "Territoire AU. F. R. INC". The swath here is mostly overgrown with evidence of little human traffic and lacks intermediate BMs and Survey Markers .... nothing like you see in some areas further west, where its like a roadway in places, BMs and Survey Markers all over the place.
After getting back to the TH we continued east on Chemin Round-Top with the plan to go to #392 ... not possible as the road is gated (locked) on 9e Rang, its only 1.3km north to the road for #392 ????? We had to drive all the way back to the Territoire's entrance (25km), then to hwy #204 where we drove northeast to Saint Ludger and approached from the north (southbound on 9e Rang).
