Ascent Trip Report

Trail head at 9 am - to our surprise- we came upon the Manitou's Ultra Marathon-- and started up the platte clove snowmobile trail just in time to watch the first 6-10 racers come up and over the shoulder!

What amazing athletes!

took 2.5 hours to summit- taking the snowmobile trail to the unmarked but well travelled northern approach.. we hung out (socked in) on hurricane ledge. located both summit markers, as well as one chunk of airplane debris. we took a southern bushwhack from the summit (firepit) and meandered about 3/4 of a mile on a semi travelled heard path -- we assumed this was the south side bushwhack to the top snow mobile loop and then the bushwhack to the indian camp ground.. however. it being alittle rainy we decided against continuing the BW and returned to the summit and jogged back down to the trailhead -- averaging 15 minutes for the last two miles.

a large group of hikers passed us on our way down-- very wet and VERY muddy, esp given the traffic from the ultra marathon

1.5 hours from summit to TH- where we hung for a minute and cheered on some of the racers!

nice hike. lots to explore so we intended on going back! and would love to volunteer for the manitou's ultra next year!!!!!!
