Ascent Trip Report

From App Gap, I took the Long Trail south to Stark Mountain. Much of the vertical gain came from gaining the ridgecrest; some parts were steep enough that iron rungs and ladders were necessary. Near the Theron Dean shelter, I took the Dean Cave bypass, which squeezed through a cave and had a difficult scramble shortly before the shelter, where there was an excellent outlook. After the shelter, it was a mostly easy ridge walk to the top of the Mad River Glen ski lift, and from there, it was a fairly short hike to the wooded and viewless summit. Got a summit pic and then headed for Mount Ellen.
