Ascent Trip Report

earlier this year, I looked at this last and final formation at the southern end of the wilderness area. The lower end of the Loop Trail goes between this formation and the peak 1705. It is pretty far from 1705 so I elected not to try it earlier this year but this year it was more inviting. As I headed over to it there is a deep valley on the left that is far more interesting that the connecting ridge which destroys this formation from having any real prominence. As I approached I was debating which of the large boulders at the peak would be the actual summit. I wondered if the more precarious one would have a "backdoor" since the front side appeared to be a technical class 5.

Then the big disappointment! When you get near the formation you see a fence and signs.Worse, the signs have massive warnings, rewards to those that turn in violators and even an electrified wire. What the heck is so important to keep people off the formation. I continued along the fence and the property fence runs up the slope to what looks like 20 to 30 feet below the summit but the fence completely keeps you out of the area. The formations at the top looked interesting but alas, I headed back. Thus, the purpose of this entry is to warn anyone that gets the inclination to go to the furthest formation for solitude, well you will get that, a nice hike, but the summit is out of bounds!
