Ascent Trip ReportDrove out of Mountain City on TN 167 and turned right onto Fire Tower Rd in Neva. After a mile on this narrow road encountered a barrage of posted signs including one that indicated that this was not the way to Doe. Continued on to a house and a gate that barred further passage. Turned around. Saw no easy workaround on the way back to TN 167.
Later in the day stopped at a visitor center in Mountain City. Got helpful directions to another visitor center off of TN 67 on Hamblin Hill Rd. Drove there and got more useful info. Hamblin Hill Rd apparently is currently the only legal TH to access Doe Mt and the fire tower. Supposedly, it's 4 miles
on the main atv trail to get to the fire tower from the TH. I'll be back to try it some cooler day. |
