Ascent Trip ReportWe drove to the trailhead from El Paso a day before New Years Eve. The trailhead was very easy to find from the Visitor Center, where we parked.
The ascent to the summit was a steady climb and offered some fantastic views of the terrain. This was my first time hiking in this region. It was dry and windy but beautiful. The summit was very windy. So we took some photos with the monument and began our descent.
We didn't bring trekking poles and the ground was a bit loose. My hiking partner actually sprained his ankle early on the way down, which made the descent "interesting." At first he thought he broke it and that I was going to have to carry him but it turned out to be just a bad sprain. He was able to make it down with only some assistance. All-in-all, I think we were very lucky. |
