Ascent Trip ReportWe followed the Klickitat Trail (#7) to near the east ridge, then went straight uphill to the ridge. From there it quickly became apparent that the ridge was not a great route -- many gendarmes and even some steep hardpan with loose rocks on it. We descended back to the forest on the south side of the ridge and traversed to above the gendarmes, then followed the east ridge to the summit. We studied the map and determined that we could easily descend on mostly low-angled terrain starting down to the SW and working our way back to the trail. That shortcut saved much effort and was very easy, made even easier by having the Garmin 1-24000 map loaded in the GPS.
