Ascent Trip Report

Pine Mountain is the second rocky pinnacle knob along the Wilburn ridge if you elect to hike the Wilburn Ridge trail to the summit of Mount Rogers. There are many places where the AT white blazes or the many horse trails cris cross so stay with the light blue blaze in in a blue blaze if you want the more scenic and undulating adventure.

We passes some AT hikers that had elected off the AT to enjoy the ridge and then were to go back on the white blaze they were saying they were at mile 500 about 20% of their journey. We met several interesting couples doing the AT from Springer Mountain heading north to Baxter SP.

The temperature was finally into the 40s and the wind was not as bad by now and at the top of the second knob there was some sweet walls of rock to scramble. The trail does not go to the top of the knob, but you can pick one of many nice walls to play on or find a side trail to the summit. The views from the top are quite nice. Then we kept heading along the Wilburn Ridge with one more knob to to go before collecting our prize the state HP and what would be my 32nd state HP
