Ascent Trip Report

Tricky crossing with a somewhat intimidated dog at Stillaguamish River but doable. A decent wash out at 3000 ft on Morning Star's lower north flank. Great foggy approach up between Morning star and Sperry. Wish we could have witnessed the vertical faces more though. Final bit up to Headlee Pass was a bit dicey with some hard snow and loose rock and quite steep. The turn into Vesper Lake outlet and up to the lake is quite grand, even in the fog. But the snow was quite enjoyable too to explore with the dog in the boulders.

Got a few glimpses of Vesper and Sperry's lower slopes as the clouds fluctuated but overall pretty socked in. Decided to explore the approach ridge and see what it looked like. On the ridge we found a previous track in the snow and proceeded on. Pretty straight forward snow hike that went steeply through a stand of trees and then further up the ridge increasing in angle until the boulder crowned summit. Got a glimpse or two of the impressive drop and glacier below but no more. The descent began to tire the dog out but he was a champ. This is a pretty steep climb with good gain for the length with good rewards. Would love to return in clear weather!
