Ascent Trip ReportQuickly became one of my favorite hikes in the southwest. Starts in a high-elevation mountain mahogany grove, spectacular 180-or-better panoramas the whole way, fun ridgeline hiking, and ending with a steep climb through bristlecones? Sign me up. Amazing to look from the summit over 11,300 feet down to Badwater Basin. Sierras were getting snowed on so not much to see out on that horizon though. Panamint Valley looked great though, 10,000ft down. the rest of the Panamint Range is rugged and gorgeous. I imagine a large portion of it goes mostly unexplored many years. This hike delivers the whole package, and I wouldn't think twice about going back.
