Ascent Trip ReportKern Peak was one of the nicest ascents of my 2 day, 4 peak 54.4 mile hike in the South Sierra Nevada mountains. I camped near the SE slopes of Templeton Mtn. I was up early, knowing that I had a lot of hiking this day. I found some water flowing in Strawberry Creek on the lower portion, but not further upstream. The Strawberry Creek Trail is in good shape. From the pass, I headed along the nice open, forested ridge, eventually leading to a boulder field. I headed up the least steep section and then along the open, pleasant ridge to the summit. The summit has ruins from a fire lookout. After the obligatory summit photos and snack, I was on my way back down.
