Ascent Trip Report

Private hike with George Christiansen. 4770 and 5080 were on the Upper Lytle Creek ridge and 4386 and 4306 were on the Lower Lytle Creek ridge. 3600 was in back of the ranger station. We exited I-15 at Sierra. Sierra becomes Lytle Creek Rd. We drove to Sheep Canyon Rd. and headed north on it. We worried about encountering a locked gate and would have to walk the road. Fortunately the gate was open on this road and 3N31. We went about 8/10th miles to 3N31 which comes in from the left. We drove about 2 miles to a saddle just past 4770 and parked. For 4770 we followed an old jeep road east about 0.3 miles to the summit and back. From the same parking spot, we headed west up a ridge following a firebreak about 0.35 miles to the summit and back to the car. For both summits, it was hard to tell exactly where the summit was. There were no benchmarks or register or obvious bumps.
Next we drove back down 3N31 to the junction with Sheep Canyon Rd and parked. We followed a use trail east which soon became a firebreak. We continued east then southeast on the ridge to the summit of 4386 and on to the summit of 4306. 4306 was supposed to have a benchmark but we could not find one. Nor could we find one on 4386. Both ridges had some brush but it was low and easy to walk around or over. Sheep Canyon Rd. and 3N31 were in excellent shape and any high clearance vehicle could make it up these roads. On the Upper ridge, we were in some low lying clouds and only had about 50’ visibility. On the Lower ridge we had good views of the Cajon Pass and Lytle Creek.
For 3600, we head back down to Lytle Creek Rd. went to the Miller Narrows and park across from the ranger station. This looked like a rideshare point as there were a lot of cars parked there. We crossed the road, headed west around a fence towards a ridge that looked like it would get up to the main ridge. We found an old use trail that was very steep and slippery. When we got up to the main ridge, we headed northwest following a wide (sometime 2’-3’) use trail to the summit. On the return, we stayed on this use trail and discovered it came out by the water tank. We then followed a road down to a point by a volleyball net behind the ranger station and back to our cars. On the summit, we did not find a register or BM, but did find a pipe and a newly planted pine tree.
