Ascent Trip Report

From Chestnut Ave in South San Francisco turn onto Ridgeview Court and continue to top of the hill and the small parking area to the start of the Ridge Tr, which runs east over the summit of Sign Hill. This paved path offers the shortest, least strenuous route to the HP. There are several trails starting lower down near the main park entrance (255') on Poplar Ave above Rocca Ave and heading quite steeply up to the Ridge Tr. The Letter Trail, which passes the iconic 60-foot high, white cement letters of " SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO THE INDUSTRIAL CITY," is particularly popular with visitors. The park's HP is a small rock outcrop between the fenced airport weather-report station and the intersection of the Ridge and Iris Hill Trails. Just beyond is another fenced area for the tall pole, visible for miles around, which is used annually for Christmas lighting. Another small rock outcrop by it is probably a couple feet lower than the other one nearby--not sure. Nice views of the general area, particularly of San Bruno Mountain..
