Ascent Trip Report

The book "50 Hikes in Alaska's Chugach State Park" has a great write up on the route.

Josh and I started out at the Eklutna Lake Trailhead. We biked the slightly more than 10 miles to the East Fork river trail. The East Fork trail was too rough for us to ride so we stashed our bikes (1h 15m). We hiked the trail for roughly a mile before we started up the drainage to Stivers Gully (37m). We spooked a group of dall sheep in the lower portion of the gully. They promptly retreated to the cliffs above and in the process showered many smaller and trundled a few big boulders down at us. More than a couple times we ran for what ever little cover we could find. At around 3,000ft the gully forks. Be sure to take the right fork. The left fork ends at some cliffs. As described in the book we found a weathered rope at the top of the right gully, but didn't need it. We took turns blazing a trail up the snowy valley to the pass at which we left and went up the big scree and boulder face to the summit ridge. (~5 hours up gully). The views were spectacular. We headed down the gully way we came (~3 hours to the trail).

Great summit!
