Ascent Trip Report

Scheduled hike with Pat Vaughn and Bruce Craig as co-leaders. Joining us was Ginny Heringer, Mark Lyons and Ted Lubeshkoff. The original plan was to start at Dripping Springs campground, hike to Aqua Tibia then continue on to Eagle Crag. Unfortunately, all the brush was wet from misty conditions, and it was cold. By the time we reached Aqua Tibia, all of us were soaking wet. With almost no chance of warming up, we decided the risk of hypothermia was too great so we turned around at Aqua Tibia. The Dripping Springs Trail and the Palomar-McGee trail were in excellent condition. We hike 8.1 miles to a point slightly north of the summit. This last portion (about 1/10th of a mile) used to be a real struggle. Some kind souls have clipped a use trail to the peak. It was marked by a duck. We found a register and benchmark on the summit.
