Ascent Trip Report

I found an improvement on Dennis Poulin's driving route that saves a couple miles and improves the road quality. Directions:

On the far side of Gold Point turn left on 2nd Ave, zero your odometer, and find the small sign that reads "Hardluck mine castle 10.5 miles" by keeping right for the first couple forks at the start (< 0.1 miles). This is a good gravel road.
Miles
0.3 take the right fork,
0.6 take the right fork
1.0 take the left fork (where Dennis goes right)
4.4 right turn onto a lesser (but still good) road
7.1 pass 2 water tanks on the left (rejoining Dennis' route)
7.9 take the left fork
9.3 keep going straight/right (up to this point road has been good, maybe even for a passenger car, but gets worse beyond here with some deep ruts)
10.2 reach a saddle at a switchback in the main road road with a lesser road to the right. Take the lesser road if you have 4WD (and enjoy bad roads) or park and start hiking.
10.6 road splits at saddle - I found a decent parking area to the left

The hike, as others have mentioned is fairly trivial.
