Ascent Trip ReportSecond time doing the Beatout hike from White/Red Pine Trailhead to Bells Canyon Trailhead. This time was with Duane and Dan. We made short work of the ascent of Red Pine Canyon to Upper Red Pine Lake. The cross country up to the Pfeifferhorn was fun as usual. The ridge is quite easy later in the season like this as it is high and dry. The route is just along the ridge top from Pfeifferhorn to 11,137. After 11,137, the route ascends to South Thunder Mtn with an optional ascent of Chipman Pk. We opted to skip Chipman as Duane was feeling a bit under the weather. As we descended South Thunder, we took the ridge to the northwest, with the intent of ascending Bells Cleaver. Sadly, as we headed down, I started to feel a bit off. We skipped Bells Cleaver, and headed for the lake instead. The trail is getting easier to follow down Bells Canyon. Below the bridge, the trail is plain as day and easy to follow all the way back to the cul de sac in the neighborhood that we always use as a trailhead.
