Ascent Trip ReportNot having read Michael Wanberg's previous TR, we (with Ardith) headed up this peak not expecting the copious blowdown we encountered. In addition, the poison oak was starting to leaf out and was unavoidable in places. Nevertheless, we persisted and bagged the summit after 2 1/2 hours of hiking. It took us 2:10 to get back down. It is only 9 miles RT but avoiding the poison oak and climbing over and under the 120+ logs took a toll on our speed. The several excellent viewpoints along the trail offer unique angles to some of the best scenery in the gorge which made up for some of the difficulties. The last half mile or so of trail to the summit is very faint and covered in downed trees and branches and difficult to see but with care can be navigated without too much trouble. If you decide to do this peak, it would be a good idea to have a bottle of Tecnu ready when you get back home!
