Ascent Trip ReportThis popular city landmark (aka Turtle Hill) in the Sunset District is well known these days for the colorful mosaic stairs (Moraga Steps) rising between 16th Ave&Moraga St (465') and 15th Ave, from where the ascent to Grandview Park is completed by more steps, first concrete, then wooden. The mosaic stairs were a neighborhood project, completed in 2005. I chose the somewhat shorter climb up the concrete flight of stairs (110 in all) on the other side of the park, climbing from 14th&Moraga to just below the windswept, sandy summit area. A tough environment for the coastal scrub here. Great views of Sutro Forest, Twin Peaks, downtown SF, and Berkeley's campanile, and more. No trouble parking on the narrow neighborhood streets.
