Ascent Trip Report

An easy road/wack ..... 2.4 miles, 1 hour RT.

I used the route in Michael Schwartz's TR which is still valid today, this TR adds a few details.

The roads CR 2 is signed Stull Hill Road and CR 2-1 is Hughes River Road (which gets narrow and somewhat rough at its top end). The road CR 2-4 on this day didn't look much like a road, more like a river. There was no parking at this very narrow corner, so we parked at the house 300 yards before this corner, with MB "DER 795 Creek Bed". We had a hell of a time turning around, so I suggest one parks here.
I went to the house but no one was home except for 2 friendly dogs. ??? Rose would ask for permission while I was away.

I walked westerly on CR 2-4 (river like at the bottom end) for .6 miles to an open gate with sign "DER Holler Farm", this is 300 yards past an old abandoned small house on the left, straight ahead at the end of the road (400 yards) I could see the large farm house.

From the gate the HP is southwest (up the east ridge) at about .6 miles (my hiking route). I left the road went across a pasture and climbed steeply 300 yards to just inside the woods, where I picked up a good woods road (its source was the farm to the right) that took me up the ridge directly to a Pipe Line Right-of-way with a fence. I hoped the fence and wacked 50 yards to the very obvious HP.

The people at the house had not yet returned.

"RITCHIE COUNTY WAS CREATED IN 1843 BY THE VIRGINIA GENERAL ASSEMBLY AND NAMED FOR RICHMOND NEWSPAPER PUBLISHER, THOMAS RITCHIE. AS OF THE 2010 CENSUS ITS POPULATION WAS 10,449, ITS COUNTY SEAT IS HARRISVILLE.
