Ascent Trip ReportDrove to Neels Gap from Dahlonega and parked at the TH parking area on the left-hand side of the road. Very obvious, and very busy on a beautiful clear blue sky Sunday. The hike from here is fairly easy, about 4km to the summit. The main point of interest on the trail is an intersection which is reached about 1km into the hike. At this point make a right to get on the AT and continue the climb to Blood Mountain's summit. There are many excellent views to be had on the way up to the summit. At the top there is a CCC building and a big rock outcrop which is the highest point of the formation. On the summit we spoke with a father-son through-hiker pair from Maine. There were a number of through-hikers out there on this day. On the way back, we also witnessed a couple who had just proposed. We continued down the trail, and this time, passed the intersection I mentioned earlier. This brought us down to Neels Gap, and the Walasi-Yi Center, an awesome store for AT hikers.
