Ascent Trip Report

I usually don't climb unnamed county highpoints, but since this spot is also on the USA 2nd Lap List and my son, Marshall, and I had just climbed Delaney Mountain, the 6th highest named highpoint in Louisiana, located just a mile away, it made good sense to add this summit to our trip itinerary. The Bossier County HP is not a summit you will be able to do stealth. The closest access road will bring you to a private residence, which has a good view of anyone hiking across the surrounding pastures. Fortunately, I found the owner of the property to be very friendly and he granted us permission to cross his land, but he did indicate that he did not actually own the county highpoint. We had planned to hike directly from this house to the highpoint, but the owner said it would be too wet and he recommended that we use the field access road to the left (west) of his lane and make our approach from there. This forced us to have a greater elevation gain on foot, but we didn't have any water issues on this route. We hiked about .4 mile across an open field and then on an ATV trail, which required crossing two posted gates. On the return we visited the southern HP spot located about .1 mile to the SE. Both summits required a short bushwhack to reach the highest points, according to my GPS, but each area was fairly level with no views. Unfortunately, the friendly land owner told us he planned to sell the property. Hopefully, the new owner will be as accommodating to visitors, but remember, the actual county highpoint does not sit on this property. You will still need to cross posted property, which takes you right past a sign reading "Dogwood Hunting Club." I would definitely avoid this area during hunting seasons.
