Ascent Trip ReportJosh A. and I parked on the north east side of the highway next to the Peterson Creek bridge. We could have pulled off closer to the trail, but there looked to be a slightly larger pull off by the bridge. We hiked up the road a sort bit to the obvious trail heading up valley. To our surprise the trail appeared to have some fairly recent and well done trail maintenance. We easily followed the trail for around .9 miles where an alder ridge and a small drainage met Peterson Creek. We followed the drainage up to around 500ft where we were able to cut right into the spruce. Going was significantly easier in the spruce forest than in the alders. At just under 1000 ft elevation the spruce forest turned into alders. We were able to pick through clearings for the most part. The alders subsided to tundra at around 1,800ft. From there, it was straight shot to the summit, nothing difficult. Views of the Turnagain Arm from the summit were spectacular! We placed a FILGO summit register just slightly off the top in what appeared to be a rock pile. There was a bit of snow, so I'm not sure how well it will be secured. We descended more or less the same route. Car to car was 4h 20mins. http://filgo.org/filgo/registered-peaks/ |
