Ascent Trip ReportI used Jean Andre Laverdure's description from 9-21-12. This got me there. I'm glad I checked this site before I left, since I planned to do this from Little Killington.
I will just add a few points that may not be clear from previous posts. From Brewers Corner, take the Catamount Ski Trail south for a 1/4 to 1/2 mile. The Catamount bares right, stay straight on the logging road. This then passes a cabin and a cleared out logging area. After this (less than a mile) there is a fork. Stay straight (or right). Not much further there is another fork, where the trail to left descends. Go right. After crossing a brook, there is a sign stating Wheelerville Road is 1.5 miles away (clearly for those descending the mountain). Just after this, the herd path can be found on the right.
I missed this and continued on the logging road. It mostly went in the right direction and I was ascending. I eventually lost the logging road, but woods were very open. Eventually I found the herd path which led me to the col of the east and west peaks. Views from the summit are spectacular. I'll be making another trip up soon. I did not find a cannister. There is a sign on the summit. I'm guessing the cannister has been removed, because there's no doubt I was on the summit. A wonderful day to be out.
