Ascent Trip ReportI used Ken Oeser's TR to guide me to the 6 candidate high point areas. I have numbered my Areas according to PB. One must read Ken for the directions.
AREA 3 & 4 (2 WESTERN AREAS ON DUCK RIVER RIDGE) .... 1.5 miles RT.
The 87 year old Dan Johnson walked out to his front porch as we drove up, a creek separates the house and the driveway. A whole bunch of friendly dogs made a lot of noise, each one trying to out-do the other. The still very activate gentleman drives-up to the ridge on a regular basis, "It'll be a muddy walk up there."
"I'm used to walking in mud.", was my reply.
I walked northerly up the valley to the ridge, staying away from his animals, but cows being cows, they couldn't resist following me for a bit. Once past the pasture its a steep climb to the ridge, then an easy stroll westerly.
I first went through a gate, then had to climb over a sturdy fence to get to Area 4, located 5 yards north of the fence, a flat walk to Area 3 at a large oak tree, both Areas somewhat obvious.
AREA 1 & 2 (2 AREAS WEST OF PULLTIGHT HILL ROAD) .... 1 mile RT
There was no one home at the house except for 3 large penned-in barking dogs, sign read "FORGET THE DOGS, BEWARE OF OWNER". We drove back and parked at the Radio Tower gate.
I walked/wacked westerly around (right) the north side of the Tower, staying below the ridge and the house .25 miles directly to AREA 1 at a pile of rocks, then wacked another .25 miles northerly to AREA 2, both easy.
AREA 5 & 6 (2 AREAS EAST OF PULLTIGHT RIDGE ROAD) ..... .4 miles RT.
We drove up the very steep driveway (its the 3rd driveway, MB#6844) to the house. The polite but perhaps defensive gentleman answering the door didn't open the glass door, "Yes what do you want."
He smiled as he answered with thumbs-up, "You're welcome to walk around."
AREA 6 is at his house, AREA 5 is a short walk of 300+ yards. Its obvious that one needs permission.
WILLIAMSON COUNTY WAS CREATED IN 1799 BY THE TENNESSEE GENERAL ASSEMBLY AND NAMED AFTER HUGH WILLIAMSON, A NORTH CAROLINA POLITICIAN WHO SIGNED THE US CONSTITUTION. AS OF THE 2010 CENSUS ITS POPULATION WAS 202,686, ITS COUNTY SEAT IS FRANKLIN."
