Ascent Trip Report

About 15 miles west of Burns, Oregon, on U.S. Hwy 20, I turned south on the OO Ranch Road and drove 20 miles to a T intersection. South of there is the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. Turning west, I drove another five miles, going through gates on an increasingly primitive road. Bearing left, I went up over a 100-ft saddle and stayed left again another 4 miles or so, ending up on the "Buzzard Creek" section of the road, just southeast of the cone-shaped mountain. From there it was an easy 1,200-ft hike to the summit. Good exercise on a nice day, and great views of the high desert.
