Ascent Trip ReportWas one of the first of the day to drive through the Longmire gate (opens at 9am)
1000 Left Paradise
Just before the big hill before Panorama Point I took off my skis and carried them. Near the top my boots were causing me such pain (especially my right shin) I had to take them off and hike up in waterproof trail runners (which performed excellently, by the way). Carrying boots and skis up at high altitude was very tough!
1400 Reach Camp Muir
Summitted Muir Peak (both summits, don't know which one was higher) by jumping from rock to rock over icy snow...
~1420? Leave Camp Muir
Skiied down, falling maybe 8 times (not too bad consider that was about my fall rate on blue runs at Stevens Pass with these new AT skis). Once it took me probably ten minutes to get the skis back on (stupid dynafit pin is hard to click in where on an incline). First part was rough/wind blow and hard/icy snow, making for a very bumpy and challenging ride. Legs were very tired and had take breaks (just standing up) every couple turns. After a while conditions got better -- 10 to 20% of the way down was actually quite enjoyable skiing. First real experience with backcountry skiing.
1610-1625 reach paradise and get in car
1647 passed through Longmire gate. Apparently though there were people who managed to make it out past 17:30.
