Ascent Trip ReportAfter running lava rock trails in the De Laparouse area of Maui, and after a crazy cliff jump on day 1 of the Maui Run Tour hosted by Sean the Run Bum, we went on to Makena beach to hike up the cinder cone peak of Puu Olai. This peak is between 2 beaches, Makena beach, which seems to be a popular area, and Little beach, which apparently is a quirky, nudist-friendly beach. We hiked to the top from the parking area by hopping a metal barrier and then continuing up a wilderness/goat trail, and then bombing down the ocean-facing side of it, where the sand is pretty loose. While walking down to Makena beach, we passed a few characters along the way before jumping in the ocean and continuing our day.
