Ascent Trip Report

The gravel/dirt road off Hwy 241 was very muddy and too rutted for a 2wd car so I opted for a hike from the first gate by the Hwy. Coordinates in previous reports are accurate and were very helpful. There are no signs forbidding access and both gates were closed but unlocked so this route from the west must still be ok. It had rained the night before but had let up by the time I started 10 past noon. It took 3:45 for a round trip and was 10.6 miles total. About 1,800' vertical counting some extra ups and downs along the way. There are a couple of bad spots on the road that will give even 4wd problems if speed is not maintained on the hills and no way could a 2wd make it in the wet.
