Black Hills, SD Expedition No. 115 - Flag Mountain was Lupe's final climb of the day. She headed down the N slope of Campaign Hill which she had just climbed for the 2nd time and reached USFS Road No. 727 at the saddle between Campaign Hill and Flag Mountain. This was the low point from which elevation gain is calculated for Flag Mountain.
Crossing USFS Road No. 727, Lupe headed right on up the SSW slope of Flag Mountain. It was fairly steep, but a pretty easy climb. There was little snow due to the S exposure and not much deadfall timber until getting close to the summit. Lupe reached the summit less than 30 minutes before sunset. The best views from Flag Mountain are from a nice roomy grassy level area just E of the actual summit and just a few feet below it. There are unobstructed views to the ENE and around to the SE from there. Harney Peak is the most dominant peak seen. There are also high ridges to the W and SW of Flag Mountain, but trees prevent a clear view.
