Ascent Trip Report

This very pleasant, short hike up Red Hill begins at the Visitor Center at Coyote Hills Regional Park at the end of Patterson Ranch Rd in Fremont. From Hwy 84, take Paseo Padre Parkway to Patterson Ranch Rd. From the popular Visitor Center I followed the well maintained Quail Tr to a saddle, where the unsigned Red Hill Tr turns right and ascends to Red Hill’s lower peak (256') before continuing along the ridge a short distance to the park’s HP, Red Hill Top. Although today’s visibility wasn’t the best, there are fine views of the bay and its salt ponds and the wetlands within the park. There are tables atop both summits for picnicking and lingering to enjoy the surroundings. On the return, I retraced my steps to the unsigned Glider Hill Tr junction between the two Red Hill summits and followed it back to the Visitor Center.
