Ascent of The Horns on 2015-01-02
|Date:||Friday, January 2, 2015|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||3805 ft / 1159 m|
Ascent Trip Report16 miles RT. Parked as far as we could up Stratton Brook Pond road, then walked along the sled trail about 2 miles to the bridge at the pond outlet/campsite. From there, a bit farther up the road to the hiker-only trailhead, then along that trail, up the fire warden trail, to East Peak first. Then went over to Bigelow West and South Horn, and down Horns Pond Trail. Overall, 16-miles, 12 trail miles. Would be similar distance to continue over the AT, only with a bit more elevation, back to the end of the plowed road.
80-MPH gusts at the summit, -5 without the wind factored in. Dress Warm!
