Ascent Trip Report

Easy visit to 2 areas in a subdivision ..... 1h30 hours including the driving between the 2 areas.

This county Has 2 Candidate high Point Areas, both in Wilmington. After the enjoyable visit to Pender CoHP we went back to I-40 and drove south to the north City Limits of Wilmington where I-40 ends and becomes/continues as Hwy #132.

At 3 miles south of the "City Limit Sign" we turned right on #117 (Shipyard Blvd), 1.9 miles west turned right on 17th Street, .4 miles north made a right on Wellington followed by an immediate left on Delaney, right on Druid Lane, right on Waverly Drive to Addies Lane on the right.
I should note that this whole area is now developed, perhaps the odd open lot is available.
Its reported that the HP is at this corner (Waverly/Addies), however after checking out the area my eyesight and my questionable-eye-level tells me otherwise. I should note however that my conclusion does not agree with the topo maps.
I concluded that "the" high ground is behind #2330 Waverly Drive (opposite Granville Road). I went to the house only to be denied access to the back yard and told "You can get that from the cities survey department." He knew that the area was the high ground of the County.
We then went to the 2 house behind #2330 Waverly on the next road over (west) ..... #2221 and #2217 Tattersalls Drive.
The lady at #2221 was very nice and helpful saying "The cable guy told me this was the high ground of the area, but I think its at the hospital." I smiled to myself to "the cable guy" reference. She allowed me to check her back yard. I went to the very northeast corner of her lot which kitty-corners with #2330 .... higher ground can be seen further north.
The lady at #2217 was actually on her way out when I approached her in her car, she didn't know that this was the COHP, she gave me permission to check out her back yard. This house is directly behind #2330. I found the highest ground to be at the southeast corner of her lot (besides fence at #2221 and the property line with #2330), some rough brush here, GPS 34.20080,-77.91965.

We went back to Hwy #132 (becomes Carolina Beach Road) and drove south for 5.6 miles to a right turn on South Ridge Road, .16 miles west turned right (north) on Ridge Blvd followed by an immediate left (west) and immediate right (north) on unsigned roads. We parked at this corner, to the west is a small north-south sandy ridge.
I scrambled to the ridge top and chose my spot inside some rough brush, opposite house #7, 25 yards west of the road, 34.11589,-77.90422.
